Builders in Perranporth

Family run builders in West Cornwall since 1975.

A Nevitt Construction is a family run builder working in Perranporth, based nineteen miles away in Hayle and building across West Cornwall since 1975. Most work here is refurbishment and extension of coastal and holiday property, plus groundworks on old mining ground.

Building in Perranporth

The parish is called Perranzabuloe, which is Cornish for St Piran in the sand, and the name is a warning rather than a decoration. St Piran’s Oratory out on Penhale Sands was buried by blown sand, dug out in 1835, lost again, and finally re-excavated in 2014 and held behind a concrete retaining wall to stop it happening a fourth time. The dunes it stands in are an SSSI and a Special Area of Conservation. At low tide the beach and Penhale Sands run together into three miles of open sand facing straight out into the Atlantic, and what that does to the weather side of a building is the first thing to specify for here, not the last.

Behind the beach the ground is mining ground. Cligga Head, the granite mass three hundred feet up just south-west of the town, was worked for tin and for wolfram and shared its site with a Nobel explosives works; the airfield on the plateau above it went in as a fighter station in 1941 and still flies. Droskyn Point has a nineteenth century castle on it and a sundial standing on the old Droskyn Mine. That history matters on the day the digger arrives: old workings and made ground are a real possibility, and it is a reason to survey properly before quoting foundations rather than after. The southern edge of the town is also inside the St Agnes section of Cornwall National Landscape, so what can be built, and how it has to look, changes as you cross the boundary.

The work Perranporth usually needs

  • Refurbishment of Victorian and twentieth century seaside homes
  • Holiday property upgrades and conversions
  • Weather-side detailing for wind, salt and driven sand
  • Groundworks and site investigation on former mining ground
Getting to you

About 19 miles from Hayle, usually around half an hour. That is close enough to come and look at the job properly before quoting it, and close enough to be on site when we say we will be.
