Building in Truro
Truro is the county town and the building stock shows it. Lemon Street and Walsingham Place are among the finest Georgian streetscapes west of Bath, and the larger detached period family homes sit out at Malpas, Tregolls and along the riverside slopes, with Boscawen Street anchoring the centre. Expectations on finish run higher here than anywhere else we work, and the extensions people ask about are more often a carefully detailed side return on a substantial house than a simple room on the back.
Three conservation areas overlap in the city: the main Truro one covering the cathedral, City Hall and the riverside, Lemon Street, and the Old City with its medieval street pattern, with the appraisal in force from April 2010. Anything touching them needs conservation consent and has to hold up under council scrutiny, which is a reason to have the drawings and the builder in the same hands. At the same time the £170m Pydar regeneration is bringing around 320 low-carbon homes and a Falmouth University campus into the city, and that is steadily changing what the surrounding streets expect of a refurbishment.

About 20 miles from Hayle, roughly half an hour up the A30. That is close enough to come and look at the job properly before quoting it, and close enough to be on site when we say we will be.
